Meet the clergy
The Revd Canon Chris Moody, Vicar of St Alfege Church
Born and brought up in South London, Chris was ordained in 1975. Except for ten years in Market Harbrorough, he has served all his ministry in London up and down the River Thames, including a chaplaincy at King’s College London. He has degrees in theology, history and an MSc in the sociology of religion and has written a book ‘Eccentric Ministry’ (pub by DLT 1992) as well as other articles on pastoral ministry and church history.
Chris is married to Gill, a professional fundraiser and enjoys printmaking, singing, gardening and travel.
Revd Caroline Risdon, Curate of St Alfege Church
The Revd Caroline Risdon was ordained as Deacon on 28 June 2014 at Southwark Cathedral; and as Priest on 26 September 2015 here at St Alfege Church. Caroline is a full-time curate.
Although she has English parents, Caroline was born and raised in South Africa; and has also lived in Ireland. She studied social work in Cape Town, specialising in working with people over 60 and those with mental illness.
Together with her husband James, and daughter Grace, Caroline is delighted to be serving her curacy here at St Alfege Church.
Revd Stephen Nyshime
David McEvoy, Reader, St Alfege Church
A Lancastrian by upbringing, David has been an active member of St Alfege Church congregation since 1988. He spent most of his working life in trade union education. David qualified as a Reader (Licensed Lay Minister) in 2017 and enjoys the role – preaching, helping with services, and providing pastoral support. David also works in the church office on Thursdays, supporting the wonderful team of volunteers who keep the church open throughout the week. David lives with his wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Helen. He enjoys choral singing, walking everywhere, watching birds and reading history.
Carole Moses, Southwark Pastoral Auxiliary (SPA)
Carole has lived in Greenwich for almost thirty years and was commissioned as a SPA in 2008. She works as part of the St Alfege pastoral team and is responsible for organising the worship at Queen Elizabeth College alms houses. She also holds the position of music librarian. Outside the parish, Carole is a day chaplain at Southwark Cathedral and is currently exploring a volunteer role within prison chaplaincy.
Dr Nick Hervey, Churchwarden
Dr Nick Hervey comes from a Forces family and grew up in Malta, Malaysia, Canada, and the UK. He was for many years Head of Mental Health Services for the London Borough of Southwark with specialisms in acute psychiatry, addictions and eating disorders. He has a BA in History, a BSC in Social Work, and a PhD in the History of Psychiatry. Nick has a number of publications in the history of psychiatry and in current mental health social work, including, ‘Masters of Bedlam,’ a book of psychiatric biographies, Collaborative Community Mental Health Care. Nick is a trustee of Bethlem Museum of the Mind. Nick has two children William and Rosie.
